Joe and Dolores came to England in that awful Snowy winter of 1963, a bit of a shock no doubt when your previous home was sunny Spain. Arriving at Chesterfield station Joe convinced Dolores they were in Sheffield so off they got off, clutching their worldly possessions they stood on a deserted station and then the reality of the situation hit. With almost no English they then had to catch the next train to Sheffield. Where upon they were met by their now frantic sponsor Mrs Bowie, who was holding a sign with their names on it.( The limit of the communication between them) This was the start of their life in England. She took them to The Hathersage inn, to start work immediately, Dolores cleaning rooms and Joe cleaning the ovens. Fast forward to today, they may have technically retired but you will still see them here nearly every day, keeping an ever watchful eye on their daughter Elizabeth( who thinks she is in charge.)
